  • complete the required questionnaire before starting the driving course for Declaration of Illness or Functional Impairment
  • Registration for the driving course offered in the Green light driving school
  • Mandatory manual: Driving a vehicle in Québec (available at our office during opening hours)
  • Take the mandatory Road Safety Education Program (PESR) Phase 1 course which consists of 5 2-hour modules .The last of which is an assessment done in class. Phase 1 is phased over a minimum of 28 days.
  • pass the knowledge test given by our driving school covering the material studied. You will receive a certificate with the mention "Pass".
  • You may then go to one of SAAQ service outlets to have your file opened and have the learner's license issued. During the test, the following documents will be required:
-- birth certificate issued by the Civil Status Office or passport.
-- health insurance card.
-- Parents' written authorization (for children under 18 years old).
-- The certificate of your Green Light driving school (certifying that you have passed phase 1).
-- A fee to cover the cost of the permit.

Obligations of the learner's license

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • You must always be accompanied by a driver with a regular license for at least 2 years.
  • You must respect the zero tolerance for drugs and drunk driving.
  • You will lose your license if you accumulate 4 demerit points or more.
  • You can drive only in the province of Quebec.
  • Your apprenticeship permit will be valid for 18 months. You can still renew it for an additional 12 months.
